Adults
Support for you
Many adults seek support after months – or even years – of noticing patterns in themselves, reflecting on past experiences, and wondering why certain things have always felt harder or why they experience the world differently from others.
Alongside these challenges, many adults also have strengths and ways of thinking that may not always be recognised or supported to reach their full potential. Our role is to help understand, embrace, and build on these unique qualities.
Choosing to seek answers can feel significant. You may feel curious, uncertain, hopeful, or simply ready for clarity. Every journey is different.
Our role is to listen carefully, provide a thorough clinical assessment, and help you understand what the outcomes mean for you. This is a collaborative process, grounded in evidence-based practice and delivered by experienced professionals in a safe, respectful space. There’s no judgement and no pressure, just thoughtful support to help you make informed decisions about what comes next.
Your next step
If you have just found out you will be seen by Healios, a good place to start is:
- Your care journey – to see the full journey
- What to expect – to help you feel prepared for appointments.
You can also use our Contact page if you have a question that is not answered here. We are here to help you feel informed, supported and ready for the next step in your journey.
Who we are
Healios delivers specialist, evidence-based online assessments and support services for autism, ADHD, and mental health for adults, children, and young people. Our care is personalised, compassionate, and accessible, helping individuals and families feel understood, supported, and empowered at every step.
We work in partnership with NHS services, Health Boards and Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) across the UK. Your local service may have chosen Healios to:
- Increase access to specialist assessments
- Reduce waiting times
- Offer flexible, home-based appointments
- Provide clinical expertise
If you have been referred by the NHS or via Right to Choose, you remain within your NHS care pathway. Healios becomes part of that pathway – not a separate service.
Our clinicians meet with adults through secure online video appointments using our clinical platform. Sessions usually take place in your home or another private space that feels comfortable. Where appropriate, in-person appointments may also be offered.
If you would like to read more about our story and values, you can visit the About Healios page.
Healios is part of your NHS care pathway, not a separate process.
We follow agreed clinical governance, safeguarding and information governance standards as the NHS, so that our support is safe, joined up and clinically sound. Where appropriate, we also align our approach with relevant national guidance (including NICE).
Understanding different assessment outcomes
An assessment can have different outcomes. For some, it leads to a diagnosis, offering clarity, understanding, and access to the right support. Others may not meet the diagnostic threshold – and that doesn’t make your experiences any less real or important. Your clinician will take time to explain the findings and answer your questions. Together, you can consider practical next steps and identify the right support and way forward.

Online support from home
Many people have questions about online appointments. Across the detailed pages in this section, we explain:
- how to join a session from a laptop, tablet or phone
- how we keep sessions private and secure
- what happens if your internet connection drops or something goes wrong
- how we support adults who feel anxious about being on camera.
Online support can make it easier for a partner, family member, friend or other supporter to join, even if they are in different places. Where appropriate, we can involve trusted supporters in sessions.
If you would like more detail about safety, privacy and governance, you can also visit our safety, compliance and integration page.
Can online appointments provide the same level of insight as face-to-face sessions?
Online assessments and support are delivered by trained clinicians who follow the same clinical governance and safeguarding standards expected within NHS pathways. They are structured, thorough, and tailored to each person.
Understanding your experience
For many adults, seeking support follows a period of self-reflection, research, or trying to manage challenges alone. You may be wondering whether an assessment could provide helpful answers, or how better understanding your experiences might influence areas of your life such as work or relationships. For some people, the next step may also include therapeutic support or practical strategies that help make everyday life feel more manageable and fulfilling.
It’s completely natural to have both practical and personal questions at this stage. You may be wondering why you’ve been referred now, what kinds of things you’ll be asked about, or what the assessment process will involve. You might also be thinking about how far back the questions will go, whether you’ll be able to explain your experiences clearly, or what the outcome could mean for you.
Taking part in an assessment or beginning therapy can feel significant, particularly if it relates to experiences you’ve been reflecting on for a long time. The best way for us to understand you is for you to be yourself, and we aim to provide a safe space where you feel comfortable being yourself.
Your questions help us understand what matters most to you and ensure the support we provide is tailored to your needs. We can also help you understand what to expect, and guide you through the process with clarity and care.
There are many myths about neurodevelopmental assessments and support. They are not about finding something ‘wrong’ with you. Instead, they are designed to understand your strengths, differences, and support needs. No outcome means you are flawed or failing. Instead, the assessment is a tool to provide clarity, insight, and practical guidance. It does not define who you are, but it can help explain your experiences, open access to support, and offer a deeper understanding of yourself.
If you are looking for private or employer-funded support

Quick answers
Is Healios part of the NHS?
Healios is not an NHS organisation, but we work in partnership with NHS Trusts, Health Boards and ICBs. If you have been referred by the NHS or used Right to Choose, your assessment or support is funded by the NHS.
Is online support safe for adults?
For many people, online appointments can be just as effective as in-person sessions and sometimes easier, because you can take part from a familiar environment at home. For others, face-to-face support feels like a better fit. If anything about online sessions feels difficult (for example, anxiety about being on camera), tell us – we can make adjustments such as shorter sessions, breaks, involving a trusted supporter, or other practical changes to help sessions feel manageable.
