For Adults

Private online autism and ADHD assessments for adults in the UK

If you’re considering a private assessment, you may be feeling a mix of emotions. You might feel ready for clarity, while also feeling unsure about what the process involves or whether you’ll be taken seriously.

We understand that not knowing what to expect can feel unsettling. Our aim is to provide a safe, respectful space where you can talk openly, and leave with clear, practical next steps.

A private autism or ADHD assessment for adults is a structured, in-depth online assessment with a specialist clinician. It is designed to understand your strengths, challenges and whether autism, ADHD or both may be present.

Many adults tell us they have spent years adapting, masking or blaming themselves. An assessment gives you focused time to explore your experiences carefully and be understood.

When a private assessment may be helpful

This route may be helpful if you:

  • Have you been waiting a long time for an assessment, or found it difficult to access the right support in the past?
  • recognise signs of autism or ADHD in yourself and want clarity
  • are finding work, study or everyday life harder than it needs to be
  • would value a clear report you can share with your GP, employer or university

What happens in a private assessment?

Depending on what you want to explore, the process may include:

  • a conversation about your history (including childhood, education, work and relationships)
  • structured questions about attention, organisation, sensory experiences, social communication and patterns of behaviour
  • self-report questionnaires to help build a full picture
  • where appropriate and with your consent, input from someone who knows you well (such as a partner, family member or close friend)

Your clinician will explain what they are considering and give you space to describe how life has felt over time, not just right now.

What you receive after the assessment

After your assessment, you receive a written clinical report. This includes:

  • a clear statement of the outcome
  • a summary of strengths and areas you find more difficult
  • practical recommendations for work, study and everyday life
  • signposting to further support where appropriate

Many adults use their report to support conversations with their GP, employer or university about appropriate support and reasonable adjustments.

For adults, ADHD prescribing may be available after assessment, where clinically appropriate and delivered under robust clinical governance.

Online appointments – what to expect

All appointments take place online through a secure digital platform. Many adults find it easier to reflect in their own space, without needing to travel.

If something feels difficult, we adapt – including pacing, breaks, and communication preferences – so you can feel comfortable and supported.

Healios, Melios and NHS pathways

Adults reach us in different ways. Some access Healios through NHS referrals or Right to Choose. Others choose a private route through Melios, our dedicated private service within the Healios family.

Melios follows the same focus on clinical governance, safeguarding and secure delivery that underpins our wider work.
